A 14-year old Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) girl (name withheld ) allegedly impregnated by her biological father in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, has given birth to a bouncing baby girl at the University College Hospital.
The 43-year old father, a bricklayer and self-acclaimed Evangelist, who has been having sexual affair with his daughter for over two years before she became pregnant, blamed the development on the devil. He claimed he did not know what came over him.
The little girl was said to have gone into premature labour at the orphanage home that gave her shelter after the case was brought into the open by Radio Nigeria.
She was initially rushed to three hospitals but was rejected due to complications associated with delivery
She was eventually referred to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where she eventually gave birth to a baby girl through Cesarean operation (CS), and the newborn was immediately placed on oxygen as the pregnancy was not termed.
The mother too had to be given oxygen to resuscitate lost strength as she was too young for the great assignment her biological father allegedly gave her.
Radio Nigeria contacted the relatives of the Mr Oluwaseyifunmi and that of his late wife, but none could provide financial assistance needed at the hospital.
Another predicament was non availability of a family member to stay with the teenage mother and the newborn at the Intensive Care Unit.
After much pleading, a care giver was hiired by the two families to do the job for just six days at the cost N21, 000.
The young mother was a JS 3 student of a public school in Oluyole local government area of Oyo State before the incident happened.
Her case came to the open when she suddenly disappeared from school which became a tale in the community where she was living with her two younger sisters, aged 10 and 12.
When Radio Nigeria interviewed her, she explained that she had to stop her Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) due to the shame of facing her co- students
The dark chubby girl also said she had been having the illicit affair with her biological father for about two years before she became pregnant.
Meanwhile, the incident was reported to the Ministry of Women Affairs by Radio Nigeria and the girl’s father who had been nurturing the three girls for over seven years after the demise of their mother was arrested by the Police and detained at Agodi Correctional Center, Ibadan.
